From Age 0 to 10: A Decade with Yo! Baby Shop

Wendy Chen |

Do you remember taking care of your newborn for the first time — clumsy, unsure, learning everything from scratch?

That's exactly how Yo! Baby Shop began, ten years ago.

I didn't have much experience. Just a love of reading together with my kids, a love of sharing good books, and the kind of excitement a new mom feels when she finds a parenting product that feels like striking gold.

It was just me, single-handedly figuring everything out, learning on her own. Like new parents, we started from zero — learning as we went.

Ages 0 : Just born.
From the day our first "Grow-with-Me" furniture set and children's books went live, every customer who trusted us made me happy from the bottom of my heart. Watching them share their child's growth journey, I felt genuinely thrilled for them — and carried some of their worries alongside them.

Ages 1-3 : Learning to talk, stumbling through first steps.
Every stumble became a chance to learn — whatever comes up, you find a way through it; if you get stuck, you keep looking for a solution. Whatever we didn't know, we learned. Stumbling forward, every problem became part of the learning, part of the growth — fuel to keep moving.

Ages 3-6 : More parents finding us.
Just like a child starting preschool — stepping into a new world, trying different activities for the first time, slowly discovering their own interests, and learning to interact with other kids and other parents — this stage of Yo! Baby Shop looked the same. Walking alongside kids as they explored helped us understand what parents really cared about, and as we connected with more and more of them, supporting each other along the way, we found our own insight — and kept facing what was new on this journey together.

Age 6 : Growing into school age — finding ourselves through exploration.
We tried story time, craft time, community fairs, baking workshops — all to make learning Chinese feel like a natural part of everyday life for our little ABCs. More and more families joined us, and we got to accompany more children's growth. Just like parents worry about their kids picking up bad habits, falling behind, or not being fluent enough in Chinese, we needed a team that worked together, kept talking things through, and kept coming back to our original purpose. In the end we asked ourselves: isn't the whole point, as a mom, just wanting your kid to be healthy, happy, and a good person? Yo! Baby Shop is the same — we came back to that same simple starting point, and focused even more on it: seeing through a mother's eyes, sharing good books and good products, giving parents across North America a harbor among people who understand, so we can all accompany our kids toward a happy childhood together.

Age 10 : Growing up but still learning.

We're still adjusting, still learning. The "teenage" years bring huge changes, and this stage of the company is the same — a lot changing, fast. But this family of ours has only grown stronger. Through all these years of growth and change, these kids and these families have grown up, one by one. And we're still here in this harbor, still showing up for even more children, through every stage of their childhood.

Ten years, we've grown up together with parenting.
The next ten years, we'll keep walking with you.
